With the victory, Ahn maintained her dominance over Ong Bamrungpan with a six-match head-to-head record. Ong Bamrungpan, who also defeated Kim Ga Eun in the semifinals of the team event, was no match for Ahn Se Young. As there is no bronze medal match in badminton, Ahn was able to claim her second medal of the tournament. After winning South Korea's first gold medal in 29 years in the team event, Ahn will now go for a double in the individual competition. Ahn will face China's He Bingzhao in the quarterfinals starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
