Ahn Se-young of South Korea plays against Chen Yuefei during the badminton women's team final match between South Korea and China at the Hangzhou Asian Games at Binjiang Gymnasium on Oct. 1 in Hangzhou, China.
The Asian Games are a time of uncompromising competition. Everyone puts in long hours of sweat and hard work in hopes of winning on this stage, so defeat is bound to sting. However, when they encounter a barrier that is too big, they seem to smile and show respect in recognition.
On May 5, Bhuvanan Ongvamrungpan (THA), who defeated World No. 1 An Se Young (Samsung Life Insurance) in the quarterfinals, posted "Awesome!! An Se Young" on his social media after the match.
In the vidéo that accompanied the post, Ongbamrungpan was seen taking a commemorative photo with An Se Young, smiling and posing for a thumbs-up. K-pop musician Akmu's "Love Lee" played in the background.
Ahn advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's singles badminton at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games with a 2-0 (21-12 21-13) victory over world No. 16 Ong Bam Rong Pan in the quarterfinals at the Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China on Friday.
With the victory, Ahn maintained her dominance over Ong Bamrungpan with a six-match head-to-head record. Ong Bamrungpan, who also defeated Kim Ga Eun in the semifinals of the team event, was no match for Ahn Se Young.
As there is no bronze medal match in badminton, Ahn was able to claim her second medal of the tournament.
After winning South Korea's first gold medal in 29 years in the team event, Ahn will now go for a double in the individual competition.
Ahn will face China's He Bingzhao in the quarterfinals starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. He Bingzhao is ranked No. 5 in the world, but Ahn is confident after winning all five of their head-to-head meetings this year.19가이드03
